A 17-year-old juvenile was seriously injured Saturday night after crashing a stolen Accomack County Sheriff’s Office vehicle, according to Virginia State Police. Authorities were contacted at 10:46 p.m. on January 25, 2025, to investigate the single-vehicle crash involving the stolen law enforcement vehicle.

Preliminary findings indicate that the juvenile was driving a 2020 Dodge Durango, an unmarked sheriff’s vehicle, at a high rate of speed when they lost control, ran off the roadway, and struck a tree. The impact left the teen with serious injuries, requiring them to be airlifted to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland for treatment.

Authorities have not yet released details on how the juvenile gained access to the law enforcement vehicle or whether any charges have been filed.

The Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and further details may be released as the case develops.
