An Eastville man, who took a drive in Northampton County at speeds that were compared to an adventure from the old TV series, The Dukes of Hazzard, was sentenced Monday in circuit court to a total of 10 months of active time in prison.
Sixty-four-year-old Stuart Clarke Karageorge was sentenced to five years with all but four months suspended for felony eluding and 12 months with half suspended for misdemeanor reckless driving by speed. The full terms were the maximum punishments for the crimes.
Karageorge was first spotted by police going 83 mph in a 55-mph zone at about 4 p.m. on June 2, 2023. The defendant was followed from Lankford Highway to Parson’s Circle, to Stone Road, to Bayview Circle, to Seaside Road, to Sunnyside Road, and to Cherrydale. The locations all between Cheriton and Eastville.
Karageorge eventually circled his yard and house, stopped the car on one side of the dwelling, ran through the house, and came out a door on the other side just in time to ask officers what was going on.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Jack Thornton said at one point during the chase, Karageorge was clocked going about 100 mph.
