Topic: Ticks and Their Diseases on the Eastern Shore of Virginia
This session will cover:

  • Identification of tick species prevalent in the Eastern Shore region
  • Overview of tick-borne pathogens and their effects on human and animal health
  • Evidence-based strategies for bite prevention and outdoor safety

Featured Speaker:

  • Ellen Stromdahl, entomologist and former lead of the Department of Defense Human Tick Test Kit Program (“MilTICK”), one of the nation’s largest and longest-running tick surveillance efforts. Her work has advanced molecular detection of emerging pathogens and tracked tick range expansion across the U.S.

This session is relevant for professionals in agriculture, natural resources, public health, and anyone working or recreating in tick-prone environments. Participants will leave with practical tools and scientific insights to reduce risk and improve preparedness.
