Meet me at the Farmer’s Market

Local Author and Former First Responder Publishes Memoir, The Ghosts of Route 13

Chincoteague Island resident Nicholette Steffes has released her debut memoir, The Ghosts of Route 13, a heartfelt collection of true stories from her years in fire and emergency medical service along Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

Written as a form of therapy after illness brought her emergency service career to an unexpected close, Steffes recounts unforgettable moments of courage, tragedy, and humanity that unfolded on or near Route 13 in Accomack County. Her writing offers readers both an insider’s look at life as a first responder and a deeply personal reflection on resilience.

Steffes will be signing books at the Chincoteague Farmer’s Market on Saturday, September 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In honor of the 24th anniversary of 9/11, she will also be fundraising for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, with proceeds from book sales, raffles, and donations supporting the organization’s mission to assist injured veterans, first responders, and Gold Star families.

“I wrote this book to honor the people and moments that shaped me,” Steffes said. “Sharing it with my community, while supporting a cause so close to my heart, makes this event even more meaningful.”

The Ghosts of Route 13 is available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle editions.
