Free Family STEM Day at NASA Wallops Visitor Center

Families across the Eastern Shore are invited to launch into a world of innovation at Free Family STEM Day, taking place Saturday, March 29 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the NASA Wallops Visitor Center, located on Route 175, Wallops Island, VA 23337.

Presented in partnership with NASA Wallops Flight Facility, the ODU Center for Educational Innovation and Opportunity, and the Virginia Space Flight Academy, this exciting event offers an afternoon filled with engaging STEM activities, interactive exhibits, and a preview of the region’s newest aerospace education initiative.

Event highlights include:

●      Hands-on STEM activities for all ages, led by the Virginia Space Flight Academy and student ambassadors

●      Exploration of NASA Wallops Visitor Center exhibitions, showcasing the missions and technologies of Wallops Flight Facility

●      A special presentation at 1:30 PM in the auditorium introducing the Aerospace Academy of the Eastern Shore (AAES), a new high school and dual-enrollment program focused on aerospace and STEM-related fields

The Aerospace Academy of the Eastern Shore is part of the Virginia Lab School network—a growing group of public schools that serve as incubators for innovation in education. AAES is a collaboration between Old Dominion University, Accomack County Public Schools, and Northampton County Public Schools. As a College Partnership Lab School, AAES is committed to developing the next generation of best practices in teaching and learning for all Virginia students while preparing a future-ready workforce to power the Commonwealth’s economy.

Launching in Fall 2025, AAES will offer high-quality, aerospace-focused instruction that provides students with the skills, knowledge, and credentials to thrive in advanced technology, engineering, and aviation fields.

“The Aerospace Academy of the Eastern Shore is about inspiring students to see themselves as scientists, engineers, and innovators,” said Dr. Rachel White, Director of AAES. “Free Family STEM Day is a celebration of curiosity, opportunity, and community—and a chance for families to see what’s possible when education takes flight.”

This event is free and open to the public. All families and community members are welcome.
