In Northampton County Circuit Court Monday, Maxwell Cooper was appealing his conviction in the lower court for reckless driving.
Deputy Ferebee told the court when he first observed the defendant driving north near Sunset Beach he clocked him at 86 mph subsequently after getting in direct pursuit Cooper was clocked once again near mile marker 72 at 90 mph in both cases a 55 miles zone.
Defense attorney Columbus told the court that the defendant was 31 years old and was headed home before deployment to visit with his family in Philadelphia when this occurred. He explained to the court that through his Navy career the defendant had lived in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Virginia and had never had a violation of any kind and that they were asking that the reckless driving be reduced to speeding so he would not reflect on his Navy record.
Judge Lewis then found the defendant guilty of reckless driving fining him $500.
