Judge to Rule On Request for a New Trial for a Convicted Murderer in Northampton

By Wesley Edwards Umah Owens, was convicted for murdering his wife in August of 2005. Judge Glenn Tyler presided over the trial in April 2008. In Northampton County Circuit Court on Monday a motion for analysis of biological evidence from that case was heard by Judge Lewis. Castro and Stith Elected as Write Ins in Northampton

Northampton voters elected two write-in candidates during Tuesday’s election. In the District 3 School Board race, Stephanie Castro received 296 of 338 write-in votes and will represent the third district on the Northampton School Board. Patsy Stith will become the mayor of Nassawadox.  Stith received 38 of 47 write-in votes for that post. The only other write-in votes of note were in District 2 where Paul E. Coast Guard Rescues Canadian Boaters Near Wachapreague

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard assisted two people after their boat ran aground near Wachapreague Tuesday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Wachapreague received notification at about 4:40 p.m. that a 37-foot yacht ran aground near Wachapreague Inlet with two Canadian citizens aboard. The Coast Guard issued an urgent marine information broadcast and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew launched from Station Wachapreague to assist. The crew arrived on scene to discover the yacht aground just inside Wachapreague Inlet, but could not reach the vessel with the RB-M due to shallow water. Fatality Occurs in Early Morning Melfa Blaze

This morning, November 8, 2017, at approximately 1:39 AM, the Melfa Fire Department called and requested the State Police to investigate a fatal Fire. The incident occured at the 30,000 Block of Lankford Highway. The structure fire resulted in a fatality. The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations is currently investigating the incident and it is still under investigation. Northam, Bloxom, Coker, Parks, Fauber, Bennett and Elected School Boards Win Tuesday

Eastern Shore native Dr. Ralph Northam will become Virginia’s 73rd governor. Northam won the election by approximately 9% of the vote Tuesday. Northam will be joined by Justin Fairfax as Lt. Governor and the incumbent Attorney General Mark R. Herring will serve his second term. Delegate Rob Bloxom won re-election to the 100th district house seat. Accomack County approved elected school boards. In Northampton, John Coker and David Fauber will join the Board of Supervisors with incumbent Oliver Bennett running unopposed in District 3. As far as the general totals are concerned, in Accomack County Republican Ed Gillespie won the total vote for governor with 5,736 votes to 4,876 for Ralph Northam. In the Lt. Governor’s race, Jill Vogel received 6,055 votes with Justin Fairfax getting 4,468 votes. In the Attorney General’s race John D. Adams received 6,003 votes with Democrat Mark R. Herring receiving 4,520 votes. In the House of Delegates race it was Delegate Rob Bloxom with 6,561 votes in Accomack County with challenger Willie C. Randall receiving 4018 votes. In the school board election referendum in Accomack, 7,485 citizens voted for electing school boards with 2,940 voting no. The first school board election will occur in 2019 when the county elects Board of Supervisors and constitutional officers. Antares Launch Scheduled for Saturday Morning

NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility and Virginia’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport are set to support the launch of Orbital ATK’s Antares rocket at 7:37 a.m. EST, Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017. The Antares rocket will carry Orbital ATK’s Cygnus spacecraft with more than 7,000 pounds of food, clothing and experiments on the CRS-8 mission to the International Space Station. The launch may be visible, weather permitting, to residents throughout the east coast of the United States. Suspect in Custody in Sign Post Barricade Incident

According to officials, Tuesday’s barricade situation in Sign Post has been resolved and the suspect is safe and in custody. 48-year-old Danny Charles Outten of New Church surrendered to the Virginia State Police Tactical Team without incident late Tuesday afternoon at his home near Sign Post. Deputies were called to a reported domestic dispute around 8:30 a.m. on Sign Post Road in New Church — just south of the Virginia-Maryland state line.
