With Election Upon Us, Polls Tighten

The election is tomorrow and as it approaches the polls have tightened. According to Real Clear Politics .com the race is almost as close as it can get.   The last  polls, all taken in November show interesting results.   A poll taken between October 30 and November 2 by the polling company shows Ed Gillespie ahead by 3 points. A Suffolk poll shows Ralph Northam ahead by 4 points, and polls by Rasmussen and Roanoke College   each show a tie.   The Real Clear Politics polling average as of Sunday November 4 has Northam ahead by 1.9 points. Co-defendant in Sanford Theft Trial Asks for New Attorney

By Wesley Edwards Sonny Kelly of Sanford was convicted on October 3, 2017 of receiving stolen goods after the victim drove by Kelly’s home observing the stolen washer and dryer in his backyard. All of the items stolen except the washer and dryer were in Kelly’s home except the washer and dryer when deputies made the arrest. By Wesley Edwards   Travis Brown, with one year, 5 months and 19 days left on his probation and suspended sentence appeared in Accomack County Circuit Court on Thursday for a probation violation that included testing positive for illegal substances and failure to report to the probation Department as scheduled. Mrs. Kathleen Lewis Horner, 88, of Accomac, wife of Lionel Franklin Horner, passed away November 3, 2017 at her residence. Va. Again Posts Record Liquor Sales

RICHMOND, Va. (AP)- Liquor sales in Virginia continue to break records. The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control reported Thursday that liquor sales for the fiscal year that ended June 30 set a record. In fact, it was the 19th straight record-breaking year. The ABC, which operates state-owned liquor stores, reported sales of $940 million and profits of $171 million. That’s an increase of nearly 5 percent in sales and nearly 4 percent in profits from the previous year. The agency attributes the sales increase to opening nine new stores across the state. Virginia Police Produce Opioid/Heroin Awareness Videos To Help Stem Abuse & Overdoses

RICHMOND – From March through July of this year, medical emergency departments across the Commonwealth each month have fielded more than 700 visits by Virginia residents for treatment for unintentional opioid/heroin or unspecified substance overdoses. Of those 700 overdose visits, approximately 160 resulted from heroin usage in June and another 150 in July. Rate of Babies Born Prematurely in Virginia Up

RICHMOND, Va. (AP)- Virginia’s rate of babies born prematurely has reached its highest point in seven years, yet researchers say the reason remains a mystery. According to the March of Dimes’ annual premature-birth report card, Virginia’s 2016 rate was 9.6 percent, nearly half a percentage point higher than the previous year. Virginia’s grade dropped from a B to a C on the report card. Nationally, the rate increased from 9.6 percent in 2015 to 9.8 percent, amounting to an additional 8,000 premature births. Shooting at Linhaven Circle Injures Two

According to Sheriff Todd Godwin, at approximately 10:50 pm. on October 31, 2017, the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a subject that had been shot at 14162 Linhaven Circle in Painter, Virginia. Upon deputies arrival, they discovered a 31 year old black male and a 19 year old black female suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital by EMS personnel where they are listed in stable condition.
