Deandre Ayers, charged with the attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, use of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, shooting from a vehicle, and lawful shooting at a law enforcement vehicle was in Accomack County Circuit Court on Thursday for an arraignment.

Ayres was indicted by a grand jury on February 6, 2017, with his case being continued 4 times since his arrest on October 3, 2016. On September 26, 2016, the defendant allegedly fired his weapon at officer Nottingham.

Judge Lewis with the agreement of  Commonwealth’s Attorney Spencer Morgan and the defense attorney Allen Zaleski, set a trial date for March 22, 2018. It was agreed that trial would be a bench trial meaning no jury. Zaleski then asked Judge Lewis for a date approximately 30 days prior for motions to be heard. Judge Lewis set that date for February 15, 2018. The defendant was returned to the Accomack County jail to await his trial.
